V&A Law discusses data privacy compliance at national summit of medical students

On 24 November 2018, Pauline Marie R. Gairanod, an associate of Villaraza & Angangco Law’s Corporate and Commercial Law Department, delivered a lecture on data privacy law at the 13th Medical Students’ Summit. The event, with the theme “Pioneering Transitions, Embracing Traditions in the Philippine Medical Field” and hosted by the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges – Student Network, gathered students from medical schools across the Philippines to participate in a series of lectures and competitions.
 
Ms. Gairanod lectured on the relevance and specific application of the Data Privacy Act of 2012, its implementing rules and regulations and issuances of the National Privacy Commission to medical professionals and institutions, as well as best practices in data privacy law compliance to protect the sensitive personal information of patients in various circumstances.
