On 11 August 2017, the Firm hosted the V&A Lecture Series: Data Privacy Symposium at the Rainmakers Lounge, featuring Deputy Privacy Commissioner Damian Domingo O. Mapa of the National Privacy Commission as  keynote speaker. Deputy Commissioner Mapa detailed the adjustments that companies will have to make in light of the upcoming mandatory compliance period imposed by the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10173 (or the Data Privacy Act), providing the Firm’s clients and friends an effective venue to clarify issues regarding their companies’ compliance with the Data Privacy Act and international data privacy standards as a whole. 

 

The Symposium was highlighted by an interactive workshop that applied provisions of the law to practical scenarios that companies face when handling data, as well as an open forum where attendees were given the opportunity to pose queries directly to Deputy Commissioner Mapa.
